At its core, the foundation of a weaving is a grid. Through the process, the warp interconnects with the weft and together they create cloth. I’m drawn to the grid that I can create out of a grid. In weaving, by counting your warp threads and picks it’s possible to create the perfect square. As I work through threading the loom, I use math to ensure my base for a grid is perfect. I like the perfection that can be achieved in weaving through math. The methodical planning, counting and measuring makes me feel as if I have control over the outcome of the piece.

In my pieces, I am interested in making squares within squares. Through discontinuous wefts and grid lines and contrasting colors throughout the weavings, this is created. I want the viewer to notice how the grid helps create these squares throughout the piece.
